Personality
Personality: Lily is smart and talented, and knows it. However, she is not arrogant over it and always willing to lend a hand. She has high expectations for her friends and family. Despite this, she is warm hearted and generous, though if you get on her bad side watch out (she's not a redhead only by nature). She throws a mean right hook, along with being creative with hexes. She is very loyal, but once her trust is lost it takes a lot of work to rebuild it.
Special abilities/strengths/flaws: Extremely talented in charms and Potions, not a bad hand with Transfiguration and Defense either; an all around very talented witch. She was in the process of learning the Animagus transformation when she fell pregnant with Harry, and the lessons had to be postponed.

Relevant backstory: Lily was the youngest daughter of George and Elisabeth Evans. George worked as a mechanic in Spinners End, and Elisabeth taught primary school. She had one older sister, Petunia, with whom she was extremely close in their formative years. Petunia was on the bossy side, but very protective of her younger sister. When Lily was 9 years old she met an odd boy who lived near their home. His name was Severus, and the two of them quickly became friends, especially when Severus turned out to be as special as Lily was. Together the two of them would practice magic, as best they could without wands, and Severus taught Lily about the Wizarding world. As they grew older, Lily would often imagine marrying Severus (in the age-old way of little girls everywhere). Severus and Lily went off to Hogwarts together, but because Petunia had to stay behind there was soon a irreparable rift between the sisters, one that grew year after year, until they were nothing more than strangers.
Lily and Severus remained friends, despite being Sorted in not only different Houses, but Houses which had an ancient tradition of rivalry. However, they remained close until their 5th year, when it became clear to Lily that Severus had been seduced by the Dark Arts he'd always been fascinated with. Deeply disappointed in her friend, a boy whom she loved and fancied marrying one day, she separated herself from him, no matter how difficult it was. She managed, and rebuilt her world without him in it. And who was there when but James Potter, a truly aggravating boy, too confident in his abilities and far too flashy. But sometimes, when no one else was looking, Lily thought she might be able to see the man he was meant to be. As they matured, she started seeing that man more and more in the boy James had been, and while he was still flashy and irresponsible, there was something else there. Something that drew her in, until in their 7th year she finally agreed to a date--one date--and to her surprise it went well.
From almost that point on, they were nearly inseparable. She brought out the serious side in James, and he in turn brought out the fun side in her. It wasn't long after that she realized she was in love with James, both the boy who would never grow up, and the man he was becoming. They had a quiet marriage in 1979, and not long after Lily's parents were killed in an automobile accident. It was a shock, and that was the end of any contact she had with her sister. Harry came along in 1980 and Lily never thought she could love anyone as much as she loved her little boy. He was the light of her life, and she vowed he would always be safe. She came to view the other Marauders as family, especially Sirius, whom she couldn't stand at first but he grew on her--like fungus, she used to tease him. After James she was probably closest to Sirius. She and Remus shared a love of learning, but she'd always found something a bit aloof about him. And she'd never been completely comfortable around Peter, because his biting sarcasm reminded her of Severus.
James, Lily and the others joined the Order of the Phoenix almost straight out of Hogwarts. Lily had wanted to go through Auror training, but it was clear that there were those in the Ministry that couldn't be trusted. Instead, she and James worked with Albus on secret missions. She was in the process of learning to be an Animagus. Strangely, it was Sirius, and not James, who was the better teacher. When Harry came along, Lily started staying home more, though she didn't stop helping altogether. They were told about the prophecy and along with James decided that Peter would be their secret keeper. She wasn't thrilled with the decision, but she had to admit it made the most sense, and was the best way to keep Harry safe. She will return to life from October 30th, 1981, the day before her death.
Anything you'd like to add: Continuing on with trying to become an Animagus, possibly becoming an Auror, having another baby with James, helping to kill Voldemort again.Possibly murdering Peter Pettigrew Hell hath no fury like a mother torn away from her baby.
